Looking back over the past five years or so, I’m amazed at just how the Great Delusion unfolded. In 2011, I had the distinct feeling that God seemed to be drawing away from us and it filled me with such dread that I began to look into it. It is one of the catalysts that led me back to Jesus Christ. In order to research this, I had to pick up a Bible – for real this time – and try to absorb the writings. Before my research began, I’d read only the book of Revelation and a snippet here and there of the rest of the Bible. I did not understand what Christianity was about. I do now.
I’ve read the Bible in entirety now and I’ve read large sections of it multiple times. Once you understand that everything we’re living through right now was foretold thousands of years ago and even more prophecies coming to fruition with each passing day, it should become quite apparent that something huge is about to happen. Paul the Apostle talks about the great delusion in detail in 2Timothy 3, and it is mentioned in several other prophecies, as well as from Jesus Himself. Days of Noah, Days of Lot, and it’s happening now. That said, the great delusion has taken about 75 to 80 years to set up. One generation, roughly. We laid this trap ourselves. It’s in full swing now, snapping shut.
God has given this nation (as well as the rest of the world) over to a great delusion, as foretold, and people are falling into it by the hordes. Only those with solid faith remain outside, looking in, watching it happen. We cry from rooftops, warning people about it, but no one listens. I had a series of dreams on this very subject, but it took me several years to put them together in my head. I’ll start with the most recent dream and work my way backward. You’ll see exactly how it’s happening and how the Will of the Lord Almighty God will not be ignored.
I woke up this morning with the remnant of a series of dreams I can’t remember. The only thing I can recall clearly is that I was talking to someone about why the world seemed to be going crazy all of a sudden. Why is there so much random violence? Then I was shown a series of images, most featuring primarily The Joker (the one from the meme accompanying this post), the “Dark Knight” Batman, and a bunch of others. All of them are full of angst, all with troubled histories, all dark at their core. They only do “good” when it furthers their goals to do so. Then the last thing I heard was, “If you want to know why everyone’s going crazy, just look at their heroes.”
I don’t know if this was Word from the Holy Spirit or just some connection that clicked together in my mind during a dream, but it made a lot of sense. If you’re like me, you’ve pretty much stopped watching anything that has come out of Hollywood altogether in the last several years. It’s too depressing and jammed chock full of Progressive propaganda. With the exception of a small handful of movies, the majority of these productions have done nothing but dwell solely on the diseased underbelly of our culture and the darkest parts of our personality.
This seems to be the style now; be as crazy as you wanna be. If a movie came out these days with a squeaky clean superhero, one that does things according to the old ways of yesteryear, the audience yawns. Clean is boring. Dark and dirty is more fun, more interesting, more relatable. Not only do we (as a society) follow the adventures of comic-book anti-heroes, we’ve also seen way too many films featuring serial killers. There are so many serial killer movies that they’ve actually run out of plausible ideas to make each one unique. But it’s “okay” as long as the victims deserve what they get, right?
Wrong.
This morning, as I was writing this, I jumped over to Google to make the meme for this post and I happened to catch a few seconds of video of the live-action version of Harley Quinn. She’s loud, she’s crude, she’s covered in tatts, and she’s certifiably nuts. The anti-hero dream-girl. Naturally, all the comments associated with the clip were filled with high praise about how romantic, wild and sexy she is. In my opinion, she looked just like any one of the lost souls one might find wandering the streets of Los Angeles, Hollywood or Vegas. But the comments from people idolizing her set me back on my heels.
How did everything become so insane? When did Sociopathy become a desired personality trait?
There’s a reason for my ramble this morning. After being told for the millionth time that I “just don’t get it” when it comes to figuring out why so many people are throwing their support behind a man like Trump, if you look at how his fans view him, it’s easy to see why. They are the kind of people who just want anyone willing to stand up and admit they have a dark side, that they’ve made huge mistakes, and even better, they’re NOT sorry for them at all.
Trump has stated that he doesn’t see any reason to seek forgiveness from God. In his mind, he has always done the the right thing. It was ‘right’ because he thinks anything he does is right. The anti-heroes that Hollywood, the media and the internet are pushing have been used to soften the ground for someone like Donald Trump. Even his name sounds like it would be a terrific pick for a comic book character – a character that was literally born with a name meaning to WIN in the last round.

I can extrapolate this in any number of ways, but hopefully you get the picture. Trump is a “card” that is played when the narrative has been projected to us that all other options have run out. Trump is a different card, one that is not of the same “suit” that has the power to override the others dealt in the hand. Note that the second part of the Merriam-Webster definition lists a Trumpet, “mainly Scottish.” It’s hard not to see the irony in that. When you have a presidential candidate like Trump, cut from this anti-hero cloth, and you give him an equally narcissistic supervillain like Hillary to contend with, and what you’re left with is the old been-there/done-that situation of choosing the lesser of two evils.
So, yes, I “get it” about Trump. He’s the anti-hero that Hollywood spent years paving the way for. He could even be the anti-hero that society has been waiting two thousand years for, the guy riding in on the pale horse that this generation believes will save the day. I hope I’m wrong about this.

When you’re the kind of person who follows patterns and behavioral trends like I do, it’s easy to see why so many people fell under Trump’s spell. It was like a huge question was asked over and over again: “Why not give in to your darkest side? Things can’t possibly get any worse, and who knows, it might even help…” The answer was ultimately Trump, as it was designed to be. Yes, I said designed. Honestly, if you look at the whole picture, including the man’s name, what are the odds that he would come along at such a time as this?
Bear in mind, we’ve been looking at anti-heroes in comic books for the last forty or so years, and in movies for at least the last twenty. A whole generation, the Millennials, have grown up watching and reading this stuff. And people are surprised that a large number of them display childish, antipathic and/or sociopathic behavior? They’re not necessarily violent, but they’re not opposed to it either, if it gets them what they want.
Trump appeals to the darker side of people, people who have been told since birth that our society is pure evil and there is no saving it. Many Christians would agree with this sentiment. There’s no saving it, so why even try? In fact, if you’re a Christian who thinks they even have a chance to turn society around and maybe repent for things like the recent SCOTUS rulings on abortion and marriage, you’re immediately told you’re wasting your time. And you’re told this by BOTH sides!
One side feels there is no need to repent and they use all the reasons in the World to justify it according to the anti-hero trope (I had a crappy childhood, I was hurt, I was wounded and therefore I have a right to want to strike out at others who disagree with me).
For many Christians, the excuses are just as mind-numbing: There are too many wicked people and they won’t listen, the end is near and there’s no time, we must accept them because Grace, and the most prevalent “They’re all damned, so why bother?”
As a Christian, I’ve often felt the compulsion to simply give up altogether. The country is broken beyond repair, so why not just retreat into my home, read my books, tend my houseplants and get off the net altogether? I would, but the Holy Spirit won’t let me. I keep being told to speak, to let people know why things have fallen apart like they have. Maybe if they understood why they’ve made the choices that they have, they would understand that there is one choice left – choose Jesus Christ.
Jesus wouldn’t have avoided going out into the world to warn people. He wouldn’t retreat, stockpile canned goods and other things, huddle in a basement and wait for the End. He wouldn’t say, “The problem is too big, so forget it.” He would deliver His message of salvation to everyone He could, regardless of what they might say to Him in reply.
If you recoiled at the notion that these “anti-heroes” I’ve mentioned are bad for society and the younger generation, guess what? Wake-up call. This same generation also rejects Jesus. They openly mock Him, treat His message of hope and Grace as a joke. They have idolized those who preach the doctrine of death. They laugh at and mock anyone who tries to argue with them. They do this because the media (movies, TV, internet) has lured them into doing so. If you constantly hear the same message, the same siren song calling you to explore your dark side, and what a virtuous thing it is to give in to it, then eventually you come to believe that this is truth. Guess what? It isn’t.
